General Update: 27th June 2016

Hello all.  A wee update from myself on my training progress for International PBC Day.

You will all be aware of our 20th Anniversary this year and to mark this we have a few events taking place.

Firstly, we have International PBC Day on Sunday 11th September 2016.  I have decided with the 20 years in mind to WALK part of the John Muir Way starting in the lovely scenic village of Gullane and finishing in the equally lovely setting of Holyrood Park.  The theme is A Mile for Every Year, so yes, that means I am walking 20 miles!!

Training has already begun with my friend and fellow Events Committee Volunteer, Jennifer O’Neill.  Jenny has been a massive support to me with this and the perfect training companion, so much so that she will be walking with me on the day. We both like to chat so we don’t even notice the miles!!

My first session was a leisurely walk around Granton-on-Spey’s beautiful golf course whilst my husband played in a trophy and to my surprise I managed 5 miles.  I really enjoyed myself and felt a little more pain than normal but that was overshadowed by feeling motivated a sense of achievement.

On my first “real” training session with Jenny, we racked up a staggering 12.5 miles which was amazing and suddenly 20 miles didn’t feel that unachievable.

Not to lose the momentum, Jenny and I completed another training session where we managed to chat our way through 16.2 miles on Sunday!! Gosh, never in a million years did I think I would even manage a fraction of that, so we are both delighted with our progress.

This is a huge challenge for me as you all know I too have PBC.  Some days can be a real struggle just to throw my legs around and put my feet on the floor and get out of my bed and walk any distance let alone walk some considerable length.

But, I am doing this all those out there who struggle.  I want to raise as much money for the Foundation and raise awareness about PBC as possible.  So, if you would like to support us, you can donate through our 20th Anniversary Campaign on Just Giving (link below) or/and why don’t you do something on PBC Day also?  Doesn’t have to be as far as we are doing, but doing something active on that day and sending us your pictures is a great way of getting everyone involved and get the country moving.

The other event we are busy planning is our 20th Anniversary Charity Ball which will be held in The Hub, Castlehill Edinburgh on 4th November.

The evening shall kick off with a pre-dinner drinks reception followed by dinner, key note speakers, including Professor James Neuberger, entertainment and charity auction.

This is a celebration of some of the achievements made during the Foundation’s time.  The very first leaflets for patients and healthcare professionals, The Patient’s Compendium, the launch of our website, our involvement in the research field and the name change are just a few.

Tickets are now on sale and limited so please contact the office to avoid disappointment.

If you require any further information about either events,  please do not hesitate to contact us.

Best wishes for now
